Veazie Dam: Freeing the East Channel

On October 10, 2013 the Sargent Corp. breached the cofferdam that allowed them to remove the main section of the Veazie Dam. After breaching, workers trucked materials to the other side of the cofferdam to extend it back to the west shoreline so they could continue removing the foundation of the forebay wall, the remainder of the fish ladder, and other infrastructure near the Veazie powerhouse. The east channel of the Penobscot River at this site now flows freely over bedrock for the first time in 100 years!

It's been 3 months since the removal process started on the Veazie Dam. Since then water levels up stream of the Penobscot River have dropped dramatically.

Virginia Piedmont and Coastal Plain Updates to Northeast Habitat Map

This project updated the Northeast Terrestrial Habitat Map by remapping the Virginia coastal plain and piedmont. (The previous version adopted the Southeast GAP map for these regions.) This resulted in a map that is fully consistent across the 13 state Northeast region (Maine to Virginia and West Virginia).

Vulnerabilities to Climate Change of Northeast Fish and Wildlife Habitats, Phase II

This project completed three assessments of the vulnerability of terrestrial, aquatic, and coastal habitats (ecosystems) to climate change, including sea level rise. One assessment evaluated 13 terrestrial and wetland habitat types, the second evaluated cold water stream habitats, and the third evaluated coastal habitats. A database of coastal climate change projects and tools was also developed.

West Branch Brook Culvert Assessment and Design - Final Report

Project SHARE conducted a preconstruction site assessment of the 30-00-0 road crossing of West Branch Brook. West Branch Brook is a head water tributary of the Narraguagus River. The Beddington Lake HUC 12 is the top priority focus area for Atlantic salmon restoration in the Narraguagus River. Funding for this project was provided by the Gulf of Maine Council with assistance from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Maine Fishery Resources Office.
