Organization Penobscot Indian Nation
The Penobscot River is the ancestral home of the Penobscot Indian Nation. Restoration of the river's migratory fish stocks is necessary to comply with sustenance fishery rights guaranteed by the 1980 Maine Indian Land Claims Settlement Act and treaties between the Penobscot Nation, Massachusetts, and Maine. Penobscot tribal members have used the watershed and its abundant natural resources for physical and spiritual sustenance for 10,000-12,000 years.

Organization Salmon Habitat and River Enhancement
SHARE is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) looking to restore fish passage and natural stream function to benefit Atlantic salmon and other native fishes. Since 2005, SHARE has improved or opened up a lot of previously inaccessible habitat – over 100 miles (2800+ habitat units). The majority of SHARE's work is within the Machias and Old Stream watersheds, as they've been recognized by biologists as some the highest priority for Atlantic salmon recovery.

The Downeast Salmon Federation Finishes Fin Clipping Effort with Help from the Community.
After only three weeks, the Downeast Salmon Federation, with so much help from the local community, has completed marking all 150,000 juvenile Atlantic salmon for their on-going research project at the East Machias Aquatic Research Center’s Peter Gray Hatchery.
