Aquatic conservation biologist John Waldman will present the sixth annual Roque Island Lecture on Environmental Conservation on Thursday, March28 at the University of Maine at Machias.

The lecture, “Atlantic Rivers: Migratory Fish, Dams, Energy Production and Thoreau,” will be held at 5 p.m. in the UMM Science Building, Room 102. It is sponsored by the Eastern Maine Conservation Initiative and UMM. This event is free and open to the public.

Waldman is a professor of biology, specializing in fishes, at Queens College, CUNY. He has written about 100 scientific articles and several popular books, including “Heartbeats in the Muck: the History, Sea Life, and Environment of New York Harbor,” which won the 2000 New York City Book Award for Natural History, presented by the New York Society Library.
