Northeast Regional Conservation Framework Workshop (Albany II) - June 14-16, 2011
The Northeast Regional Conservation Framework Workshop, held in June 2011, provided an opportunity to step back and synthesize the results of many projects that have been completed or are underway through the Northeast Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies Regional Conservation Needs (RCN) program and Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs). The workshop also helped partners determine how these projects might fit into a common regional conservation framework and identify the greatest needs for future work. By fostering information sharing and discussions among regional conservation experts, the workshop sought to clarify the “big picture” of conservation, illuminate how existing efforts complement each other, and identify key roles for each of the partners to play in the future. These activities all contributed to the overarching goal of achieving more effective and efficient conservation in the Northeast region. The workshop results are guiding the development of shared science capacity in the Northeast.

North Atlantic LCC Operations and Development Plan
The Northeast Region has elected to emphasize development of the North Atlantic LCC in 2010, while also supporting efforts to begin LCC development within the south Atlantic, Appalachian and Great Lakes geographic areas. The region is building upon strong partnerships to create the North Atlantic LCC, which, guided by the principles of strategic habitat conservation (SHC), will develop and communicate landscape-scale scientific information to shape conservation across the Eastern Seaboard south to Virginia. The North Atlantic LCC will be part of a network of LCCs initiated by USFWS in 2010 that covers the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States, a geographic area that, when compared to other areas globally, is highly susceptible to impacts precipitated by climate change, including sea level rise and storm surge events.
North Atlantic LCC Conservation Science Strategic Plan
The purpose of this strategic plan is to articulate a vision, common conservation framework, process and initial priorities for developing shared science capacity for the North Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (LCC) as part of the larger mission of the LCC. The intent is to show how the LCC shared science capacity will build upon and link together ongoing and completed science by partners in the northeast with additional priority science needs and identify next steps.
